A letter from the Board of Directors
Beautiful Community of Movimiento Afrolatino Seattle,
It is an honor to serve you all as members of your Board of Directors. And we would be remissed not to address the constant change that is surrounding us—globally, nationally, locally, and personally. Sometimes it feels like it’s happening by the hour.
Change can be unsettling… but it also carries the promise of renewal and optimism. There is no “right” way to respond to it. Here at MÁS, we are experiencing those emotions, right alongside you, as we move through this season of change together.
We have a change of our own to share. Our beloved leader, and daughter of MÁS, Milvia Berenice Pacheco Salvatierra—La Negra—is stepping down as Executive Director.
Milvia has led with compassion, solidarity, and intentionality—lifting both the local Afrolatino community and the international community. Tirelessly and selflessly, she carried MAS into its next decade. We honor her profound dedication… and we are energized by all that she has given. We are looking forward to a new beginning. Milvia’s journey with MAS is not ending, but evolving. Together, we are exploring what her role will look like moving forward. And we are excited to see how her vision and voice continue to shape our future.
Our commitment to healing, to the arts, and to collective leadership remains as strong as ever. This next chapter gives us the chance to deepen that work together. We are approaching this moment—and the future of MÁS—with continued collective leadership and responsibility. We are being creative with how we share workloads, with our scheduling, and with our internal communications.
Thank you all for your continued support. And please, do not hesitate to reach out with any concerns or well wishes by emailing us at [email protected].
