on March 18, 2019, at El Centro de la Raza. This workshop featured Gustavo Ovalles, a renowned Venezuelan musician known as Omo Aña (son of the drum). He has been a member of many renowned Venezuelan research and music groups such as La Trapatiesta, Mina, La parranda de San Benito, has performed on prestigious stages such as Carnegie Hall and has participated in several international festivals in Canada, Holland, Senegal, Tokyo. among others. The workshop focused on two instruments “maracas” and “quitiplas”. Quitiplás are hollow bamboo sticks that are played by hitting the ground. Experienced musicians from the community, as well as community members with no musical experience, adults and children participated in this workshop. About 40 community members participated in this event.
