1st Edition. Pilot cohort
This program, which is still in its diapers, arose from the initiative of one of the young participants of this pilot Pedro Martinez, who needed hours of volunteering for his school and wanted to explore one of the things he likes to do the most, which is photography. So between conversations with him came the idea of interviewing and taking photos with some of the artists in the community as a way to fulfill their volunteer hours for the organization and at the same time connect and learn about Afro-Latin art.
In June 2020 we published the first interview that Pedro did with the teacher Silvio Dos Reis, where the construction path of this space began. Together with Delia Pinto we began to dream about how to shape this program and in October 2020 with the collaboration and wisdom of Christopher German we began to work and design a curriculum for the program and to write a scholarship for the financial support of this initiative. Afro-Colombian writer Jacob Taylor-Mosquera also joined us in this effort, as a volunteer to offer support in classes on how to write about your identity and how to do an interview.
In February 2021, the Seattle Foundation, through its N2N program, awarded us a grant to support the implementation of this program; so in March of this year we started.
