Workshops of Afro Hair Care and Traditional Turbans
Facilitator: RAYZA DE LA HOZ PÉREZ
CEO- Mata ‘e Pelo / Riohacha-Colombia

Afro Hair Care: Thursday August 26 6:00 pm 8:00 pm
Traditional Turbans: Saturday August 28 3:00 pm 5:00 pm

These workshops were conducted with the Financial support of the Verdant Health Commission. We want to thank Verdant and especially Sandra Huber for the support with this collaboration to generate a restoration space for our community.
From the experiences of MÁS conversations for MÁS Orgullo, we realized that we had to create a specific space for restoration and self-care linked to the issues that we dealt with in those conversations. These workshops are MÁS ‘response to give continuity to that process of restoration. A space to gather together to heal collectively, share ancestral knowledge that helps us repair the wounds caused by
colonization processes.
In these two workshops, our comadre Rayza De La Hoz will share several recipes for natural massages for Afro hair care, as well as a theoretical and analytical framework of the impact that anti-blackness and colonial processes have on the way in which we relate to afro hair. He will also talk about the importance of Afro hair care and the use of the turban as a political tool of resistance, empowerment, connection and manifestation of the ancestral legacy.
