At MÁS, we are super excited to promote the work of one of our closest collaborators, Otoqui Reyes. Last year, Otoqui Reyes joined us at the the Beacon Hill Small Business Pregonesand at our end-of-year event at Benaroya Hall, Whispers of Ancestrality. Now we want to support his work as a teacher with an intention to continue creating spaces for the sharing and knowledge of Afrodiasporic ancestral wisdom. Come be in community, dance and learn about this beautiful genre we call Bomba.
In this workshop we will focus on:
-
- The piquete, the art, and the language of improvisation in Bomba and its relationship with the primo drum.
- El Cua and la Maraca as a vehicle for understanding rhythm and time in the basic Bomba step.
- How singing connects with rhythm, time, and the basic step.
