It was a wonderful meeting and I was honored to have sat with all the participants. What made it all the sweeter for me was the fact that it was an intergenerational reunion. Participants of all ages shared their truths and listened to the truths of others, while younger members sat, danced, ate, and painted in or around the circle. It was obvious that I needed to improve my basic Spanish, but it was something special for me to sit in a bilingual circle, and I loved the way the participants took care of each other by interpreting and translating when needed.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The focus of the first round of this post-election circle was the fears that people carried with them. Many responses were given including fears of moving from one bad leader to another, apathy<a href=\"https:\/\/movimientoafrolatino.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/01\/16265164_1794306164153226_6046428817784345494_n-e1485902488696.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-678 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/movimientoafrolatino.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/01\/16265164_1794306164153226_6046428817784345494_n-e1485902488696.jpg\" alt=\"MAS dialogo\" width=\"291\" height=\"194\"><\/a> in certain communities, divided minds, disenfranchisement in the Latino community, and a general feeling of lack of progress. We concluded with a roundtable asking &#8216;given everything we&#8217;ve heard, what are the things that adults in this space <\/span><b>need<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to do?&#8217; The first answer should surprise no one.<\/span> It was &#8216;to create spaces to meet each other, and to be more intentional about creating these encounters.&#8217; This call was strong. This call was clear; same as the call to the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pay more attention to legislation, especially in the eastern part of the state.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One place to start is<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/leg.wa.gov\/lic\/Pages\/default.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theolympian.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Olympian<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and\/or find new resources. educate yourself<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Distribute the work of being informed and having meetings focused on sharing information. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Listen and talk with people who don&#8217;t think like you. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Get out of your bubble, go to the eastern part of the state. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Find and provide space to<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YvPcvYk0XVM\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">laugh<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span> <\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember, the<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/peggy\/the-very-large-list-of-very-tiny-things\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">little things<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">matter.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Find ways to<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/spiritedwarrior.wordpress.com\/2011\/04\/26\/top-7-tips-for-turning-fear-into-power\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">turn fear into action<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and get involved.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">volunteer<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Help young people understand the need for education. Then help them succeed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/seattleamistadschool.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Volunteer<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattleschools.org\/families_communities\/volunteer\/volunteer_opportunities\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Schools<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go see<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt4846340\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hidden Figures<\/span><\/i><\/a> <\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reduce the accumulation and use of material goods.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Investigate<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theminimalists.com\/minimalism\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">minimalism<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I thank M\u00c1S for asking me to facilitate this circle and I thank all the people who participated and shared their wisdom; And I know there is so much more that we failed to bring to the surface. We have the answers we need. If ever there was a time to pay attention to our neighbors, it is now. This meeting, I am sure, is only one of many. This is what we need to do at this strange time.
